Dallas Cowboys Season Preview: Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar, Darren McFadden Split Carries In Running Game?

With all this talk about running backs trying to sign with the Cowboys, how are their carries going to be split up. In 2014 DeMarco Murray got the majority of the carries and routinely went over 20 touches a game.

Now with Murray gone do not expect that same formula to work for any one particular back. The Cowboys have hinted to the fact that one running back will not replace DeMarco Murray but a running back committee could. The Cowboys fully expect Joseph Randle to be their starter however he may not even come close to reaching Murray's amount of touches in a game.

Randle has shown great explosiveness and power in his runs this offseason and could be given 15-20 touches a game depending on the running back situation. Darren McFadden could get around 10 and Lance Dunbar should get 5. That is still a lot of running for any team to deal with and each back is vastly different in using their own skill sets.

This still leaves two running backs on the Cowboy's roster that have yet to be utilized in Gus Johnson and Lache Seastrunk so it is likely that both of these guys head to the Cowboy's practice squad.
