NFL News and Rumors: Fort Myers Police Department In Hot Water Over Nate Allen Incident

Jul 24, 2015 02:09 PM EDT

According to reports Oakland Raiders defensive back Nate Allen was detained for hours before being released. Officers reportedly accused him of masturbating in his vehicle; Allen now claims he has been the target of police negligence and wrong doing.

Allen is planning to hold a press conference on Friday to address the multiple crimes committed by officers during his time in custody as well as how this situation arose in the first place. Allen was cleared of all charges on March 12th however he plans to sue the Fort Myers police department over the incident. The officers involved in the incident were apparently given suspensions for their conduct.

One of the officers faces a week long suspension for failing to properly investigate a crime scene along with making a false arrest. Another officer was suspended for three days for failing to assist in an investigation. Another officer was reprimanded for "failing to interpret the Florida Statute regarding lewd and lascivious arrest." The last officer involved must go to counseling for failing to check on Allen every thirty minutes while he was incarcerated.

If this were the NFL every one of these officers would be missing the entire season along with a $500,000 fine but alas Rodger Goodell has no authority here. Allen will go on the offensive with his suit and seek damages for his time spent behind bars.
