Washington Wizards Rumors: John Wall Favors Kelly Oubre Over Otto Porter as Bradley Beal Contract Hurts Kevin Durant Pursuit with Jared Dudley, Alan Anderson Deals?

The Washington Wizards had a disappointing ending to the 2014-15 season after getting beat by the Atlanta Hawks in the playoffs. Since then they lost Paul Pierce in free agency, but drafted Kelly Oubre who is gaining plenty of praise with his summer league debut. The Wizards were extremely careful with contracts they handed out in free agency with the idea that they will chase Kevin Durant in 2016 and the success of Oubre could really factor in to other contracts this offseason.

Oubre earned some fans in summer league play. According to the Washington Post, Oubre could be the next Otto Porter while potentially being better than his teammate. Porter likely does not want to hear this considering his contract is filled with team options for the rest of his time in Washington. Wall noted that Oubre's confidence will allow to make an immediate impact for the Wizards which is what they need after losing Pierce.

"Well, that's what you need...These young guys are coming in more confident now," Wall said, via Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post. "I think he's going to be great for us...think he's somebody like Otto but probably more athletic and able to move. Otto is more methodical, moving at his own pace."

With the Wizards uncertain about their commitment towards Porter, Oubre's rise will be a headline to watch this upcoming year. He could have a big impact on what Washington does in the coming offseason. Bradley Beal will also impact that plan as he is eligible for a new contract with the Wizards. According to CSN Washington, the Wizards are trying to lock down Beal this offseason instead of next year in order to help with the chase of Durant. Beal is expected to command a max contract which the Wizards will likely be forced to give out, but might not feel good about the idea. Beal has missed an extensive amount of time due to injuries. When healthy, he creates one of the more dynamic backcourts, but with the Wizards aiming to get Durant, they will be careful with the deal to Beal.

The Wizards would be wise not to put all of their eggs in the Durant basket. According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, Durant is expected to remain in Oklahoma City, but that will not stop teams from chasing him. The Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks all want Durant as well, meaning competition will be high. If the Wizards plan their offseason around Durant and miss out, there will be in trouble.
