NY Jets Rumors: Will Geno Smith Be the Quarterback After 2015? Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty Challenge to Start

Jul 21, 2015 03:20 PM EDT

Geno Smith has Jets fans divided and rightfully so. With the inability to get a good read on the quarterback thanks to poor offensive line play and a gutted defense, the Jets have struggled mightily since Geno has taken the reigns.

Hey the kid even lost his first head coach to the Bills, that has to be tough. It seems as if year three is put up or shut up time for Gang Green's quarterback and the Jets have even picked up some capable backup quarterbacks including Ryan Fitzpatrick and the newly drafted Bryce Petty, just in case they need to make a change mid-season. The Jets and Jet's fans must be getting a feel for how Geno has done so far, and let's remember the Jets have not had any wide receivers for the majority of time Geno Smith has been the starter.

Geno Smith

Completions: 466

Attempts: 810

Percentage of passes completed: 57.5

Yards: 5,571

Average yards for each pass: 6.9

Passing touchdowns: 25

Rushing touchdowns: 7

Interceptions: 34

Times Sacked: 71

Rating: 71.5

That's pretty bad even when considering the bad offensive line and terrible wide receivers. This year however the Jets went all in on Geno Smith giving him Brandon Marshall and Devin Smith. The Jets want a clean look at Geno Smith, a look not disrupted by the team's mediocrity. If Geno cannot get it done or at least improve his numbers in the slightest then he will be replaced by the accomplished backup Ryan Fitzpatrick until Bryce Petty is ready to go.
