The New York Mets continue to sit at the top of the National League East and continue to improve thanks to strong pitching a batting order that is continuing to gain momentum. They are making their way through all of the division rivals as they have a chance to win six straight over the Atlanta Braves for the first time since 1985 as they meet again at Citi Field.
The Mets have been turning things around after stalling out in a 2-6 stretch as they have now won two in a row and could extend that streak as Jacob DeGrom on the mound. The pitcher is 7-4 with a 2.42 ERA, but is currently in the midst of a 10-1 stretch with a 1.30 ERA. He is 8-3 against Atlanta while the Mets continue to beat up the Braves while winning eight of their last 10 meetings. In his last five outings he has a 1.24 ERA with 44 strikeouts and four walks as he looks to match the best stretch of his career.
"It's mainly about going out there and trying put us in position to win every day, going out there and trying to put up zeros to get a win," said deGrom, via ESPN.com.
The Braves will try and counter with Shelby Miller who is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but is just 0-1 with a 2.96 ERA over the last four starts because he is not getting any run support.He was in the works to get the win against the San Diego Padres, but the bullpen gave up four runs for a 5-3 loss. He is 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA in his last three games which all happen to be against the Mets. Michael Cuddyer is one of the best batters against Miller as he is 3 for 3 with a double.
The Braves have been starting and stalling during this recent stretch of the season. If they get a lot of production at the plate, the pitching does not follow. If the starting pitcher is getting going then the bullpen falls apart. Atlanta will aim to salvage a win and get some momentum going.
