New York Mets Trade Rumors: Ike Davis Disappoints, Team Looking to Move Slugger

Sep 18, 2012 12:28 PM EDT

The New York Mets have been rumored to having interests of moving first base slugger Ike Davis.

The willingness to move Davis is not reflected on his numbers but his lack of taking guidance from coaching staff. Also a concern for the Mets' is Davis' late night outings. He has the knack of staying out late which can rub off on the younger players in the Mets' team.

Davis is marketable because he is a young player who can hit 25-30 home runs in a season. He has hit 27 home runs and driven in 81 runs so far in 2012.

He has struggled at points in 2012, but he and David Wright have been the run producers in the Mets' lineup that is practically composed of minor league players.

If Davis can find a home somewhere else during the offseason, then the Mets will place Lucas Duda at first base.

Duda, who has made trips back and forth to the minors, would move back to his natural position. Duda had made most of his starts in the outfield, but he is a liability when playing the fields.

The Mets should not have trouble finding a suitor for Davis. He is powerful, will be turning 26 in February of next season and can play very good defense.

In 2010, Davis was right up there in the battle for Rookie of the Year as Buster Posey and Jason Heyward took the league by storm.

There is still a lot of growing for Davis and the Mets hope that Duda can provide some pop despite never playing a full season at the major league level.
