The Dallas Cowboys continue to hear the doubts regarding their running back rotation. As they make upgrades to their offensive line with a contract for La'el Collins, owner Jerry Jones and company become more and more confident that they do not need a super star back like they once had in DeMarco Murray. With Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle ready to carry out the rushing duties, the Cowboys are not looking to add any more players.
According to team vice president Stephen Jones via the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys will not be adding any more running backs at this time. This statement from Jones comes from the request of veteran Chris Johnson to join the team. Currently sitting on the free agent market, Johnson told TMZ that he would be a great fit for Dallas and the team needs him.
"I'd fit good in Dallas," Johnson said, per TMZ. "They need it. Yeah. That's what we're trying to do."
Johnson was last seen in the New York Jets' backfield where he put up a career-low 663 yards rushing. However, he did average 4.3 yards per carry which is better than what McFadden was doing in Oakland. There has been no interest in Johnson since his release from the Jets. Jones told the media that while he is on the short list of veterans the team could be interested in, the Cowboys will not be making any moves at the time.
"We haven't visited with Chris, and we can't talk about him because he's a free agent," Jones said, via the Dallas News. "But right now we're looking at the guys that we have on our roster. He is somebody that is on a short list of ours that we think could ultimately come in and do some good things for us if we asked him to. But I wouldn't say it's a priority right now."
The Cowboys seem extremely confident that any running back can be successful in their backfield behind their strong offensive line. As a result they did not draft a star rookie this past weekend. They did not trade for Adrian Peterson. They let Murray walk away. The Cowboys will find out very quickly if just any back can succeed in Dallas.
