The NY Mets and New York Yankees are playing live on the MLB schedule for the Subway Series Friday and this weekend and the first game from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx starts at 7:05 pm ET and has Jacob DeGrom against Michael Pineda in the pitching matchup as the Big Apple teams face off for the interleague series.
The Mets come into the game having won 11 in a row and they have been one of the best teams in baseball to start the season. The Yankees have played well too, but the Mets have been better and this should be a very intriguing series as the Mets try and steal some thunder from the Yanks. The three games will be on national TV, with the MLB Network, Fox Sports and ESPN handing the coverage and it comes as the Mets are making local TV gains on the Yanks this season.
Matt Harvey is back and looking strong for the Mets and he could be key for the season if he can stay healthy following his Tommy John surgery. Masahiro Tanaka pitched a gem of a game for the Yankees in his last start against the Tigers and he too is a key player for his team. The Yankees need to have the rotation stay healthy this season for a chance to win and they come in after winning three of four from the Tigers.
Detroit hosted that series and the Tigers had been off to a great start, but the Yankees shut them down and beat up David Price in one of the matchups. The Yankees felt that was a good measure of their club and now they have the chance to try and beat another top team in the early part of the season.
The Yankees have won six of seven games and they have the chance to keep that going after the Mets went through a 10-game home stand and won them all. The Mets are going for a record amount of wins in a row for their team and the last time they did this well, well it was the 1986 season and we all know how that ended.
The Mets have had six straight losing seasons and the players hope this is the start of something new. The Yankees have missed the playoffs the past two years and now both of these teams feel they can be in the mix in the postseason. The Mets have strong pitching and the scoring has been there so far, while A-rod has been off to a solid start for the Yankees following his yearlong suspension.
