NBA Playoffs Standings: Seeds and Matchups For East-West, Schedule Starts April 18

Apr 13, 2015 08:30 PM EDT

The NBA playoffs standings are nearly set with all the seeds and postseason matchups in the east and west, but there are still some spots and positions open before the schedule starts next week on April 18, as the eastern conference has two spots open, while the seeding in the western conference is tight heading into the final week of the regular season.

The western conference has the Golden State Warriors as the number one seed and they have had that spot locked up for a while. The Southwest division has been super competitive this season and right now the entire division is in the playoffs, but the final seeds are not locked in. The Spurs now are in the second seed with 55 wins and they are leading the Grizzlies and Rockets with 54 wins, pushing them into the fifth and sixth spots for the moment. The Pelicans are bringing up the rear and they currently have the eighth spot with a slight edge over the Thunder.

The Clippers are in third place in the conference standings and the Blazers are currently in fourth, while the Mavericks are in the seventh position. The Thunder and the Pelicans are the bottom teams in the playoff race and they are the two fighting for the final spot. The East has the Hawks in first place and they are leading the Cavaliers, who have locked up the second seed and they are in over the Bulls and the Raptors.

The 3-5 seeds are up for positioning behind the Hawks and Cavs, with the Raptors and Bulls battling things out and the Wizards also in position at number five. The Bucks appear locked into the sixth seed, while the Celtics and Nets are in the final two spots in the postseason. The Pacers and the Heat are close, but it looks like the Nets will sneak in at the eighth spot.

The west is a mess in a good way, as the top seed is locked up, but everything in the middle is up for grabs. The Mavericks are firmly in seventh ahead of whoever wins the eighth spot, but that leaves a ton to be settled. Playoff matchup will be decided by the seeds and whoever wins the southwest will be in good position, as the other two very good teams in the division will get pushed down in the standings. Houston has been great this season and they are battling with the Spurs and the Grizzlies for the top of the division, which is where San Antonio is for the moment heading into the final week.
