Atlanta Falcons Rumors: Michael Bennett Traded as Julio Jones Contract Priority? Pierre Thomas, Jermaine Gresham, Stevan Ridley Targets for Devonta Freeman Help

The Atlanta Falcons have yet to really make that homerun signing in free agency as they continue to bring in guys that could be starters or simply rotational players in Dan Quinn's system. Signings like Eric Weems for offense and specials and Adrian Clayborn for passing rushing help certainly fit needs for the Falcons while not being flashy picks. With a significant amount of cap space to work with, what are the next steps in Atlanta's offseason?

According to Spotrac.com, the Falcons still have over $20 million in cap space to work with. So what are they planning on using it for? Julio Jones immediately comes into focus. The Falcons have yet to begin negotiations with their star wide receiver, but have guaranteed a contract for Jones is a priority this offseason as he prepares to enter the final year of his rookie contract.

"The things I've heard about him, just in terms of the leader he's become on and off the field, can't wait to connect with him," Quinn said, via ESPN.com. "For me, just to have the chance to start the process with him, I can't wait. ... We love great players, and we want to celebrate all the good guys that we have. We're trying to collect more great players, not the other way around."

It is uncertain exactly what kind of deal Jones will ink. Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas both got hit with the franchise tag as the receiver market is inconsistent right now. Jeremy Maclin signed a deal worth five years and $55 million that includes $22 million in guaranteed money. Kansas City gave him a nice contract that is team friendly for one season. The Falcons must determine what Jones' market value is compared to that.

After Jones, the team still needs an elite pass rusher. There are limited options left on the free agent market unless the team seeks out a trade. According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett wants a trade to the Atlanta Falcons along with a new contract. The defensive star is currently inked to a four-year, $28.5 million contract. Could this happen? Yes, it is the NFL and anything is possible. Will this happen? It seems unlikely the Seahawks will give up Bennett unless they think Greg Hardy is really the answer for the future.

Outside of these two moves, the Falcons could target a tight end like Jermaine Gresham who is still waiting on a deal. They could bring back Jacquizz Rodgers on a cheap contract. They could re-sign Dwight Lowery who is getting little interest in free agency. Those moves could set the Falcons up for a productive draft and strong future.
