The Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots are playing in the AFC championship game on Sunday night and the matchup in the NFL playoffs is on CBS starting up past 6:40 pm ET after the Seahawks and Packers play and it will be at Gillette Stadium as Andrew Luck and Tom Brady matchup to see who plays in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots come into the game after winning over the Ravens and now Tom Brady is going for that next championship that has been elusive to him this past run of success. Brady has lost his last two Super Bowl appearances against the New York Giants and now he has the chance to go back and this could add a nice bookend to his latter years with Bill Belichick. The team was on the path to face Peyton Manning again, but Andrew Luck and the Colts took care of that and now the young star meets the legend again in the playoffs.
The two teams have already played this season and that was a blowout for the Patriots in Indianapolis. The weather is not looking good for Sunday night and the Colts could be affected since they play in a dome, but both teams rely on the passing game. The Patriots rushed for over 200 yards against the Colts in the last matchup for the teams and the Pats could try and do that again. The Colts will be without Trent Richardson, but he has done much for the team anyway and that puts more on Luck's shoulders.
The Colts come in after an upset win over the Broncos and that made Jim Irsay feel good about his decision to move on from Peyton Manning for Andrew Luck and now he has a chance to upset Brady. Luck has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the Colts reportedly are working on a mega contract for him coming up when the new league year starts in 2015. Luck had over 40 touchdowns this year and the Patriots will try and keep him from getting going with TY Hilton and the Colts passing attack.
The Colts won the AFC South this season, while the Patriots won the AFC East yet again and now the division winners will battle for the championship. Luck had his best season and Brady put together another strong campaign and now both will be looking to get to the Super Bowl. The Colts were the top passing team in the league this season and they were ranked 22nd in rushing yards per game and without Richardson that means Dan Herron and the backs will have to contribute. Luck had nearly 4800 yards this season and he now is the top target for the Patriots defense.
The Patriots went 12-4 this season and went 9-3 against the AFC and now they are looking for another victory against a conference opponent. The Pats come in ranked 10th in passing yards per game and they have Darrelle Revis on defense and he will be the top cornerback to watch. The Seahawks and Packers game was wild over the final quarter and now the Patriots and the Colts will matchup to see who advances against the NFC champs.
