The Chelsea Blues and Tottenham Hotspur are playing live on the English Premier League schedule on New Year's Day and the matchup from White Hart Lane has the Spurs hosting Jose Mourinho's side and the matchup starts at 12:30 pm ET on the NBC Sports Network and on the NBCSN Live Extra website as the EPL calendar picks up in 2015.
Chelsea comes in as the first place team in the English Premier League standings right now and the matchup is on the road away from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea remains on top after the busy December and now they come into January on top and they will have an FA Cup match coming as well before a game against Newcastle. The team has Tottenham, Swansea City, Man City and Aston Villa on the schedule and they are the favorites to finish on top.
Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino thinks his team can get things going in this matchup at home, as the Spurs come in after a 0-0 draw against Man United. Mourinho and his team come in after a draw with Southampton and they likely will have some changes in the lineup after the busy schedule they just had. Chelsea is in position to finish 2014 as the top team in the EPL and if the past is any guide, they are likely to win, as they have stayed on top three of the four times that has happened.
Chelsea has been the most consistent team overall in top flight this season and players like Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have been huge for Mourinho. Chelsea doesn't have many tough games through the second half for a while and apart from a trip to Arsenal this may be the toughest, as they have already played away at their top rivals. The team is leading Man City and they already played away there along with Man United and Liverpool, giving them a real chance to continue running things. Tottenham has already lost away at Chelsea this season, but they have only give up four goals in the games since that matchup.
Chelsea comes in undefeated against Tottenham and they have drawn the last two and now Mourinho has the chance to get a victory away at White Hart Lane. Chelsea has lost only once away this season and they have won eight games with four draws and they come in as the favored team once again. Fabregas has been a playmaker, putting in 13 assists to lead the EPL this season.
