The Philadelphia Eagles did not end the season like they were hoping to. After starting off strong and holding a lead in the NFC East, but fell to 10-6 thanks to a three-game losing streak in the month of December. Now, Chip Kelly and company enter the offseason with several important contracts to look at as well as determining the future of their quarterback position.
The first order of business will come with wide receiver Jeremy Maclin who led the offense this season. Maclin was working off a one-year contract this season after tearing his ACL and missing all of last season. The Eagles opted to give him the short contract to determine just how healthy he would return and the result was 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns. Kelly has been very adamant that he wants Maclin back with the Eagles next season. The same goes for running back LeSean McCoy.
"Do I want LeSean back? Yeah. Do I want Jeremy back? Yeah," Kelly said, via CSNPhiladelphia.com. "But is that the reality? I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen. What if someone gives us 17 first-round draft picks for LeSean? Am I going to say, 'No, I made a statement on a radio show at 8 o'clock in the morning after the game and said I want LeSean back so I'm not going to do that.' We're going to look at everything."
McCoy has certainly remained a threat for the Eagles offense, but his contract is an issue. The running back is set to earn $9.75 million next season while being a cap hit of $11 million. That is heavy for the Eagles who had a lot of contracts to take care of in the offseason. McCoy says he is open to restructuring his deal in order to stay with Philadelphia.
"The season just ended, and...I'm an Eagle. I love it here," McCoy said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. "My six years here have been excellent. I've been very, very, very productive here. I have a great relationship with my coaches, the owner. We'll see what happens. It's a business. Anything can happen; I know that. But I'm sure we can work something out."
The Eagles also have to deal with a potential contract extension for Nick Foles who missed the back half of the season due to injury. With Mark Sanchez unlikely to return, Foles will be the starting quarterback unless Kelly makes a move to show otherwise.
