Penn State Transfers: As Rumors Swirl, Justin Brown to Meet With Bill O'Brien About Oklahoma Opportunity

Aug 02, 2012 12:17 PM EDT

Penn State could be on the verge of losing another top player in the wake of last week's NCAA sanctions.

Justin Brown, who has been the subject of transfer rumors involving multiple schools, is set to meet today with Nittany Lions head coach Bill O'Brien about his options, with a move to Oklahoma a significant possibility, according to ESPN college football analyst Joe Schad.

Schad posted a report to his Twitter account (@schadjoe) on Thursday, saying, "PSU senior WR Justin Brown may meet w Bill O'Brien today. Has Oklahoma offer. May happen today."

Brown would be the first senior to leave Penn State since the NCAA's sanctions against the program were announced last week. Under the terms of the sanctions - which include a four-year bowl ban and loss of scholarships for Penn State - any current or incoming Penn State player is allowed to transfer to another school with immediate eligibility.

A 6-foot-3 receiver from Delaware, Brown started 11 games for Penn State last season, and was the only Nittany Lions receiver with a reception in every game. He caught 35 passes for 517 yards and two touchdowns, ranking second on the team in catches. The rest of Penn State's returning roster had just 23 catches in 2011, which would make Brown's departure particularly hard to swallow for PSU.

The Sooners graduated three of their top six pass-catchers from last season, including Ryan Broyles, who led Oklahoma in catches (83), yards (1157) and touchdowns (10) before being drafted in the second round by the Detroit Lions in April. While the Sooners return a pair of talented receivers in Kenny Stills and Jaz Reynolds, Brown would certainly be a welcome addition to the receiving corps.

The Nittany Lions, who open training camp next week, have already lost their top running back in Silas Redd (USC), former starting quarterback Rob Bolden (LSU) and a special teams stud in All-Big Ten punter Anthony Fera (Texas), who also led the team with 62 points last season. It remains to be seen whether they'll lose Brown as well.
