NY Jets Rumors: Geno Smith Slams Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota Draft Report, Michael Vick Free Agency Return Unlikely as Brian Hoyer, Colt McCoy 2015 Options

Geno Smith does not want to hear talk about the future. The New York Jets quarterback remains confident in his abilities as a starting quarterback even if no one else does. It is clear that the Jets are considering all options at the position which started prior to the season when they brought on Michael Vick. Now as the losses pile up, talks of drafting a quarterback are surfacing causing Smith to lose his cool with the media.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets are planning on making a run at either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota in the draft depending on where they fall in the order. At the moment heading into Week 15, New York would be drafting fourth overall which should land them one of the two players. When asked about the report, Smith scuffed at the media saying he takes a little defense at the idea.

"It's a process," Smith said, via the New York Post. "But I understand in this league you've got to be able to do it and do it right now. I think the fans should want to see the team win. I can't worry about it. I'm just going out there to do what I have to do to win the game. I can't make any decisions on anything other than that."

Smith has simply not played well enough to secure the starting job. The quarterback once again is plagued by turnovers, He has 12 interceptions and two lost fumbles on the year while the Jets sit at 2-11. He was benched and then given back the starting job only to lose again. According to Smith, if he can find a little consistency, he has what it takes to be a Pro Bowl quarterback.

"I feel like I have the tools and I have what it takes to be that, but, obviously, it takes some consistency and I've been very inconsistent in my two years here," Smith said. "With that being said, I'll be more of the guy you see doing well than the guy who struggles at times."

Flashes are not enough for the Jets and as the team faces a number of changes in the offseason, quarterback is likely one of them. The Jets could opt to draft either Winston or Mariota or they could make a run at free agents like Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer to help while Smith attempts to develop.
