Washington Redskins Rumors: Robert Griffin III to Start Before Trade to Oakland Raiders, NY Jets? Colt McCoy Return Likely as Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston Draft Picks

Robert Griffin III will not be under center when the Washington Redskins take on the St. Louis Rams in Week 14. The Redskins are Colt McCoy's team until further notice. Many speculate if Griffin is simply done for the year or if he will make another appearance before the season is done. The Redskins are almost out of playoff contention and still have some tough games ahead. If McCoy struggles, could Griffin get one more shot at playing?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that there is a "real chance" Griffin sees the field again before the season is over. Not only could he get playing time, but Schefter believes the quarterback gets at least one more start. Washington has the Rams, Giants, Philadelphia and Dallas left on their schedule. Those are a lot of division games and if the Redskins can get a few wins, they stand a very slim chance of getting into the playoffs. It is slim, but the quarterback play will dictate what happens.

McCoy certainly did not look terrible in the loss to the Indianapolis Colt. The quarterback threw for 392 yards and three touchdowns while getting sacked six times. The defense simply could not stop Andrew Luck and company. If McCoy cannot get a win against the Rams, head coach Jay Gruden might be forced to make a change once again.

According to Schefter, the relationship between Griffin and the front office of the Redskins is damaged. The team essentially sold the farm on Griffin and outside of his rookie year, the quarterback has not been worth it. However, the team continues to try and put him out on the field as the face of the franchise, yet the results are not coming and now the Redskisn look to be forced to make a move once again.

Several NFL sources are reporting that the Redskins want to trade Griffin at the end of the season. The team would still owe the quarterback $3 million if he was simply released due to contract language. The Redskins likely will avoid picking up the option on Griffin's contract in order to not pay him a transition tag, so a trade is the best option. Most believe the quarterback is worth a mid-round draft pick at best, but there will be teams that show interest.

The New York Jets could be a frontrunner for Griffin as well as the Oakland Raiders. Both teams have quarterbacks they are not sold on and could aim to bring on Griffin for help. So who replaces the quarterback in Washington? The Redskins could re-sign McCoy considering his familiarity with Gruden's offense and then draft a rookie to develop.
