The curious case of the Washington Redskins continues. After losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, things got a bit ugly. Robert Griffin III was unhappy with his teammates. Head coach Jay Gruden was unhappy with quarterback. DeSean Jackson was subtweeting people in Twitter. It was a mess. As many speculate Griffin was throwing his teammates under the bus for their performance in Week 11, Gruden is downplaying the drama surrounding the team.
"It takes 11 men," Griffin said, via ESPN.com. "It doesn't take one guy, and that's proven. If you want to look at the good teams in this league and the great quarterbacks, the Peytons and the Aaron Rodgers, those guys don't play well if their guys don't play well. They don't. We need everybody. I need every one of those guys in that locker room, and I know they're looking at me saying the same thing."
Griffin essentially told the media that it was difficult to make good plays during a game when his teammates were not playing well either. Reporters jumped on that as Griffin not taking responsibility for the loss, leaving the quarterback to clarify his remarks, denying that he would ever blame a loss on those around him and he took full responsibility for his poor play.
Things took another turn when Jackson appeared to call out the quarterback on Instagram, posting a photo that said, "You can't do epic shit with basic people." Is this shade towards his quarterback? Judging by the comment section next to the photo, most people took it as such. Gruden is trying to defuse the drama surrounding at the team saying that Griffin and everyone else just need to worry about doing their jobs and nothing more.
"It's his job to worry about his position, his footwork, his fundamentals, his reads, his progressions, his job at the quarterback position," Gruden said, via ESPN.com. "It's my job to worry about everybody else. And, yes, everybody else needs to improve. There's no question about it. But it's not his place. His place is to talk about himself and he knows that. He just elaborated a little bit too much."
Gruden confirmed that Jackson was slightly frustrated with the comments from Griffin considering all of the headlines hinted that the quarterback was tossing his teammates to the wind. Gruden's drama is only increasing though. Griffin is not playing well and the team must decide what the best option at quarterback is. Clearly Kirk Cousins is not ready for primetime, but Colt McCoy is responsible for the most wins for Washington this season and Gruden could opt to make a change no matter how unpopular it is.
