The Washington Redskins have made their way through their entire quarterback roster this season, something head coach Jay Gruden likely did not plan on. Robert Griffin III struggled, got injured and then struggled again in his return. Kirk Cousins was demoted and Col McCoy continues to wonder why he is not still playing. Despite McCoy being responsible for two of the team's wins, Griffin will continue to start at quarterback, a move DeSean Jackson admits has been questioned.
Coming out of the bye week, the Redskins were likely hoping the drama surrounding their quarterback issues had quieted down, but comments from Jackson only stirred the pot a little more. The wide receiver notes that he was enjoying the success of McCoy and when Griffin was inserted back as the starter following an ankle injury, the move was questioned by several players in the locker room.
When the past decision was made for Colt to be benched and RGIII to come in and start, you kinda feel guys feeling a certain way about that," Jackson said, via NFL.com. "In the locker room, I had to stand up and say something like, 'As players, that's not our job. We can't worry about that. The only thing we can worry about is going out on Sundays and play your best and put your best foot forward. You worry about what you're gonna do on the field, and let the coaches, the owners and everybody else have that relationship with RGIII or whoever's making that decision. As players, we gotta take care of what we can do.'"
This is something that Gruden likely does not want to hear. Griffin's relationship with the Redskins has been questioned in the past. The quarterback was obviously drafted to be the face of the franchise, but has struggled heavily in the past. It was speculated by the Washington Post that Gruden favored Cousins as a starting quarterback in training camp, but was told that Griffin must start for the team regardless. Now players are questioning the move to keep him as a starter? It simply adds to the drama of Washington's season.
Griffin will be under center come the team's next games despite McCoy looking strong at the starting job. Jackson simply wants to win games and admits that he does not care who is at the quarterback spot as long as the team is winning. Will Griffin be the quarterback that achieves that? If he struggles again and still remains the starter, Gruden could start to lose the locker room over the decision.
