The Washington Redskins gave up a lot to get Robert Griffin III in the first round of the draft to be their face of the franchise and he intends on staying like that. The Redskins have three wins on the season and that can mainly be chalked up to struggling quarterback play which Griffin has contributed to. After head coach Jay Gruden hinted at another change under center for Week 11, Griffin is denying he is getting benched.
The Redskins have some time to sort through their issues as they head into the bye week after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Many of those issues revolve around the quarterback position and Washington is doing all they can to eliminate the problem. Could bringing in someone else to add into the mix help? According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Redskins have brought in quarterback Terrelle Pryor for a workout.
This is an interesting move by Washington considering all three of their options are healthy. The issue is that all three of their options are not playing well. Griffin is struggling to grasp the new offense. Kirk Cousins was demoted after he tossed more interceptions than touchdowns. Colt McCoy was getting wins, but is not exactly the most exciting option. Could Pryor be the next man up?
Pryor's NFL career has been an interesting one. In 14 starts, the quarterback has 1,953 yards and nine touchdowns all with the Oakland Raiders. In typical Oakland form, they cut the quarterback in order to invest in Derek Carr. The quarterback then went to the Seattle Seahawks to backup Russell Wilson where he got rave reviews for his play on the field, but he was then cut. The Redskins could be the next team up for the former Ohio State standout.
Griffin has heard all of the talk regarding his status with the Redskins. He denies any changes will be made making note that this is still his team to take ownership over.
"There's no doubt there," Griffin said, via ESPN.com. "This is my team and I'm going to lead it. I understand everybody has a criticism. But you have to prove yourself every day in this league. I take that mindset toward it, but when it comes to being the franchise guy ... I believe that I am. I believe this organization knows that I am and I know those guys in the locker room believe that I am. I don't ever step onto the field trying to make a claim saying, 'I'm the guy.' No, it's not like that."
Given the cost of Griffin, he will likely be the starter come Week 11. It does not matter that McCoy was responsible for two of the team's three wins. It will be Griffin under center.
