The Minnesota Vikings may look at a trade with Adrian Peterson in the future once his legal issues are done with and the Dallas Cowboys could be an option if they don't agree on a contract extension with DeMarco Murray and this comes as Peterson and his lawyers have been in talks about a pleas deal in his child abuse case and comes after the emergence of Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon for the Vikings.
UPDATE: Peterson has reached an agreement and will not serve jail time. Fantasy owners should pick him up again right away, he could be back soon even with NFL suspension.
Peterson has been on the exempt list since early in the season after his legal issues came to light and now his child abuse case could be nearing an end point. According to ESPN.com, Peterson and his representatives have been working on a plea deal in the case and that could lead to his return to the NFL at some point this season. The plea likely would bring the charge to a misdemeanor from a felonry according to ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen and he also reported that Peterson could still face a suspension even with the plea deal.
ESPN.com reports that the two sides could come to a plea agreement over the next couple weeks and that would set up Peterson for a potential return to the field. Mortensen reports that Peterson could be suspended by the NFL for his actions even if he reaches a plea deal and that also could complicate his return to the Vikings. The team has had Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata step in for Peterson and they have played well and that could lead the Vikings to a trade down the line.
DeMarco Murray has been a strong MVP candidate this season and while the Cowboys want to keep him, he could demand too much money. Peterson is getting paid a ton of money as well, but if he is eventually released he could be a main target for the Cowboys. Peterson has been one of the best players in the league over his career and now he could end up on the move once his legal issues are resolved.
Last season there was some talk about a trade with the Vikings limping to a losing season, but the team never pulled the trigger with Peterson. The Dallas Cowboys came up as an option after an Outside the Lines report came out this summer on the subject of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, as Peterson and Jones shared a telephone conversation. That conversation was detailed in the report and described how Peterson and Jones showed mutual interest in one day having Peterson on the Cowboys, but that all was from before Peterson's legal issues went public.
Peterson is dealing with a legal issue now and he is on the exempt list and off the field and there is a chance that the Vikings and Peterson could be heading for a split in the future. The team is paying Peterson a large amount on his extension and they are on the hook for a big cap number over the next few years and Mike Freeman and Chris Mortensen have both reported that the Vikings will look to get out of it. Bridgewater has taken over as the starting quarterback and both McKinnon and Matt Asiata have played well with Peterson on the sidelines.
