The Stanford Cardinals are proving that they too have the ability to simply reload their talent after the team lost a lot of players on defense and a coordinator. They are coming off two shutout wins as they prepare to face off against the Washington Huskies. Right now, the Cardinals currently lead the country in scoring defense and total defense along with pass defense much like they have done in years past, a trend they aim to continue.
Washington is hoping to challenge that defense as they have scored at least 44 points in their past three games at home. While those opponents have losing record, the Huskies get their first true test as they play the Cardinals. The Huskies are undefeated this season as they begin their first year under head coach Chris Peterson. Cyler Miles is a big part of that as the quarterback has completed more than two-thirds of his pass attempts while putting up 525 yards and five touchdowns on the year.
The Huskies have depth issues. Running back Jesse Callier suffered a torn Achilles and now Dwayne Washington and Lavon Coleman will managed the backfield after combining for 473 yards of rushing offense. John Ross is also uncertain at wide receiver. He sat out the Georgia State game while leading the team with 224 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cardinals have a fully stocked defense to challenge. AJ Tarpley and Blake Martinez lead the linebacks while Wayne Lyons and Alex Carter take care of the secondary. The team dropped their game against USC but beat UC Davis and Army while standing strong against the triple offense. Stanford is hoping to continue their turnover streak as they have created one in 40 of their last 42 games. Kevin Hogan is standing strong at quarterback while putting up 705 yards and seven touchdowns with just one interception on the year. The Cardinals also confirmed that Remound Wright who sat out against Army will be back against Washington.
