It is officially the Kirk Cousins show in Washington. The Redskins are currently sitting at 1-2 on the year after losing on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles and are now getting another NFC East opponent at home when they face off against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. Robert Griffin III is a distant memory and now the backup quarterback takes over looking to improve off a solid debut performance. The Giants on the other hand are simply hoping to get the offense moving behind Eli Manning.
The Redskins are beat up after their chippy game against the Eagles. Not only is Griffin, Jordan Reed and possibly DeSean Jackson out, but DeAngelo Hall is done after rupturing his Achilles, safety Duke Ihenacho broke his foot while Brian Orakpo hurt his finger. 17 players were listed on the injury report as of Wednesday, not exactly something they were looking to have entering a divisional matchup. The Giants have everyone healthy minus first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr which could be an advantage.
New York is coming off their first win of the season after beating the Houston Texans 30-17 in Week 3. Rashad Jennings put up a big game with 176 yards of rushing. Manning likes the idea of rushing more than passing simply because he and the other wide receivers have struggled with chemistry through three games. Victor Cruz believes the win is the start of something positive for the Giants. He had five catches for 107 yards and ended his 12-game touchdown drought with a score.
All eyes will be on Cousins who begins his second game of the season as the starter. He went 30-for-48 for 427 yards and three scores against Philadelphia, but has a four-game losing streak to his name. While no one expected Cousins to get the road win last week, there are high expectations after he put together a good game with team now competing at home. Without Jackson, Pierre Garcon will be the top target while Alfred Morris steps up as a rusher.
