Chicago Bulls Rumors: Ray Allen Free Agent Target, Taj Gibson Trade Option As Nazr Mohammed Signs To Backup Pau Gasol?

Sep 24, 2014 11:20 AM EDT

The Chicago Bulls have signed back free agent Nazr Mohammed this offseason heading into training camp and now Derrick Rose has a deep bench of players to work with, as the team added Pau Gasol, Doug McDermott and Aaron Brooks this summer to join Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson as the team tries to make a championship run against LeBron James and the Cavaliers.

The Bulls are also chasing Ray Allen on the free agent market and he could be the next signing for the team as training camp gets closer. The Cavaliers, Wizards and Spurs as well as the Clippers and Miami Heat are also going after Allen and he could make his choice before the end of the month. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Bulls signed back Mohammed to be a backup for Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson and a solid option off the bench and he gives the team a physical presence up front.

Pro Basketball Talk couldn't help but point out that Mohammed once shoved LeBron James in a playoff game and while that was in the past, that toughness could be big for the Bulls this season. The team is getting Derrick Rose back healthy and after signing Pau Gasol and drafting Doug McDermott the team feels it has a deep run in them this year. The Cavaliers will be the favorites in the division and in the eastern conference, but if Rose stays healthy there is no reason why the Bulls can't come through and get it done.

Allen is still one of the best free agent options on the market and he can shoot the three with the best of them in the NBA. The Bulls were one of the worst three point shooting teams in the league a couple years ago and while they have already added Doug McDermott from a draft trade, the team could use another strong shooter off the bench. The team has put together a deep roster and they could have more depth than anyone in the east along with the Miami Heat. The Cavaliers are the favorites and rightfully so, but the Bulls should be very good as long as Rose stays healthy.

The Bulls have the toughest division in the east with the Cavaliers and the Pacers and overall Miami, New York and Toronto should all be strong along with the Wizards. The division has the Cavs as the favorites with LeBron and they have also added more than just Kevin Love. The team signed Mike Miller, James Jones as well as Shawn Marion and they have tons of young talent with Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson and Kyrie Irving running point. The Cavaliers should make it out of the east and they are the faves to win the division title.

The Knicks brought back Carmelo Anthony and made some moves that should make them better and while they aren't title contenders, they should be back in the playoffs. The Bulls have been a good team even without Rose healthy and now they have added more talent and they are getting him back from his knee injuries. If Rose can play the season, the Bulls have a real chance to make it to the finals in the eastern conference even with LeBron in Cleveland.
