The first preseason game did not go as planned for the New York Jets. They lost two cornerbacks, one being Dee Milliner, a projected starter for the 2014 season. The second game will be a big test for the Jets as they face a Cincinnati Bengals team with a front seven defensive line that is ready to chase after Geno Smith.The team's offensive line has not looked great to start the year and they are counting on communication to start kicking in and helping.
The Jets will use these last few preseason games to figure out how to properly use the Michael Vick tandem alongside Smith. Head coach Rex Ryan has remained adamant that Smith will be the starting quarterback for New York this season, but how does the team work in Vick? The coaching staff has hinted that a Tim Tebow style role for the quarterback could be in the works, something no Jets fan wants to hear. The team has some package of running plays they will likely test out against the Bengals.
The secondary is a big question for the Jets. Milliner is resting a high-ankle sprain that could linger during the season. Dexter McDougle tore his ACL. Dimitri Patterson has been out. Right now, New York is regretting Antonio Cromartie depart this season. Going up against the likes of AJ Green will not be easy for the group. Antonio Allen will get the start at cornerback despite being listed as a safety.
Meanwhile the Bengals has a defense that is ready to be the best this season and they have the players to do so. Leon Hall, Geno Atkins and Vontaze Burfict are all back to lead the group and they represent a defensive unit that finished as the best in the AFC last season.
Cincinnati is also hoping to see more from quarterback Andy Dalton. He was not active much in the first preseason game, but that will change on Saturday as depth is already an issue. In the midst of contract issues, Dalton is ready to prove himself.
