According to league sources, there is still a chance Orlando Magic All-Star Dwight Howard could become a member of the Brooklyn Nets.
What's in discussion? Well the Nets and the Magic are willing to make a trade that would send Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and the Nets' first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017, sources said. Lopez and Humphries, who are both free agents, would go to Orlando in sign-and-trade deals.
If this deal were to fall through, this would be the second blockbuster trade of the week for the Nets giving them a legit big three of Howard, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson that may even rival the, "Heatles", NBA championship big three of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
In actuality-- the Nets would have a Big Four, with Gerald Wallace agreeing to a four-year, $40 million deal earlier this week, as they move into their first season in Brooklyn.
The Nets front offices are still waiting on Williams to tell them whether he will re-sign with them as a free agent, but sources say Williams was pleased with the trade for Johnson, so he is expected to stay. A trade for Howard would without a doubt seal the deal.
After waiving his opt-out clause for next season in March, the trade would give Howard what he has wanted for the past seven months. On Monday, Howard told Yahoo! Sports that he would only sign a long-term contract with the Nets.
After the Nets' trade with Atlanta, the chances of Howard going to Brooklyn appeared dead. At the time the likeliest destinations for Howard on Monday night included the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks. Before the Nets re-entered the picture the Lakers were willing to offer Andrew Bynum, the Hawks would offer Al Horford and Jeff Teague, and the Mavericks would look to sign Howard as a free agent next summer.
