The MLB trade deadline for 2014 is coming up next week and players like David Price, Ian Kennedy, Drew Stubbs, Matt Kemp and Jonathan Papelbon are potential targets for teams, including the NY Yankees, Seattle Mariners, LA Dodgers and Cleveland Indians.

Price has been the main trade target in baseball all season and now he could move to a team in the pennant race, as the Rays are far out of it but still hanging on. According to ESPN.com, the Rays are thinking hard about what to do and if they remain within a certain amount of games at the deadline, they could pull back Price from any traded talks. The mariners were considered one team in the mix, but they are so pathetic right now Price probably wouldn't even help. The team can't score and they can't beat the Mets at home and now they have been shut out 12 times this season and it's probably time they face reality and just give up. The Mariners had been playing well and were up 2.5 games in the wild card, but their offense is simply pathetic and there's no way the team is getting anywhere hitting the way they do, so why even waste trading for Price.

The Yankees have made smaller moves and now Hardball Talk reports that they are interested in trading for Ian Kennedy and this comes after they added Brandon McCarthy from the Diamondbacks. The team needs pitching and they have lost Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia and they need some more help in the rotation. Kennedy is a former Yankee and he has been pitching well for the Padres this season, although he likely will have to shave if he is traded to the Yankees.

According to ESPN.com, the Yanks are talking about sending prospects Eric Jagielo and Ian Clarkin for Kennedy and that would give the team another solid pitcher. The two prospects were first round picks and that is a lot to give up and the Yanks may want to hold back at least one of them. Kennedy is making just over $6 million this season and also would be on the team next year and that could be worth it for the Yankees if they hope to make the playoffs this year.

The Mariners offense has been terrible and they are just horrible right now and they have been looking for right handed hitting and Drew Stubbs is a name that came up. According to Hardball Talk and MLB.com, the M's inquired with the Rockies about Stubbs, but the team wanted a controllable pitcher and the Mariners aren't willing to do that just yet. Stubbs has been playing well, but it's Coors Field, so it could be just the high altitude.
