The Major League Baseball standings for the 2014 season is into the All-Star break and division standings has the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers leading at the break in the AL and NL, while the wild card has the LA Angels, Seattle Mariners and a battle between a number of National League teams like the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds.
The Tigers have the biggest lead in baseball heading into the mid summer break and right now it looks like they will once again run away with the division title. Justin Verlander said that Oakland made their big trade thinking of Detroit and he is probably right about that. Oakland has the best record in baseball and the west division in the AL has been by far best in baseball, as three teams with the A's, Angels and Mariners are in playoff position at the all-star break.
The NL Central has been the most exciting, as Milwaukee has seen their double digit lead fall and now the Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates are all in contention and close in the standings. The Nationals and Braves are seven up on the Mets, while the Brewers now have a one game lead in the central. The NL West has the Dodgers up one game over the Giants, while the Padres are 12 back.
The Orioles are leading the Blue Jays by four games, while the Yankees are five games back. The Central has the Royals way back at 6.5 games, while the Indians are one behind them. The Angels are closing in on the A's and they are 1.5 games back, while the Mariners are eight back.
The wild card race in the NL has a mix of tied division winners and close teams, as the Braves and Nationals lead the NL East and are in the top spot, while the Giants are also up there ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. The wild card race looks intense in the NL, while the American League it is starting to separate a bit, as he Angels have been very hot and they are in first place by a wide margin in the AL Wild Card, while the Mariners are in second. The M's have 51 wins and the Angels have 57 wins, while the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays are 2.5 games back, the Yankees and Indians 3.5 games back and the Twins and White Sox 6.5 games back.
