MLB Standings 2014 AL and NL: Division Leaders and Wild Card Records

Jul 14, 2014 10:13 PM EDT

The MLB Standings heading into the 2014 All-Star break has some interesting teams in the AL and NL as division leaders, with the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Braves and LA Dodgers, while the Wild Card teams are the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants and the NL East teams.

The division races should be tight heading into the second half except for the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, as nearly every division in baseball has second place within a handful of games. The AL East has the Orioles leading the division heading into the break and they have a four game lead over the Jays, while the Yankees are back five games ahead of the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays at 9.5 back at the All-Star break.

The AL Central has the Tigers up big on the Royals and Cleveland Indians and they have simply been dominating that division for years now. The AL West amazingly is the best division in the league, as the Oakland A's have the lead over the Angels and that is now down to 1.5 games after a strong streak by Los Angeles, while the Seattle Mariners are the second wild card team and hanging around with 51 wins on the season, which is very impressive considering how they have played the last few years.

The NL East has the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves leading the Marlins by seven games and those teams look to be the only ones in contention and one may have to win the wild card just to get in. The Brewers lead is down to 1 after being the best in the NL and they are ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds, while the Pittsburgh Pirates are also lurking. The NL West is going to be entertaining once again and has the LA Dodgers in the lead over the Giants by one game and they are 12 up on the Padres in the division.

The wild card in the AL is clear right now, with the Angels in the first spot, while the Mariners are in the second spot by 2.5 games over the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees are still hanging in, as are the Indians and in the NL, it's going to be a wild second half. The AL East teams are there now with the Giants, while the Reds, Cardinals and Pirates are in contention and even the Mets aren't totally done yet (but it's the Mets)
