The World Cup 2014 quarterfinals has Germany and France matching up on Friday at 12 pm ET on ESPN2 and live on the WatchESPN website and also live streaming on the radio from ESPN Radio and the quarters match is from Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro and comes before the Brazil and Colombia matchup later in the day and the winner of this game plays the team that advances from that matchup.

France has put itself in great position to get to the semis and players like Karim Benzema and Paul Pogba have played very well and they come in looking to matchup with the winner or Brazil and Colombia. Bezema has been one of the best players in the tournament and he is one of the leaders in goals and they are hoping Germany is a little flat after their tough game against Algeria, which was unexpected. France made their way through the group stage fairly easily, while Germany had to deal with Ghana, Portugal and the United States.

Germany won over the United States in their final group match and those two teams advance, with the Americans losing to Belgium and now the German side will try and advance here. Thomas Muller has played very well and so has Karim Benzema for France and those players will be key for this game on Friday and this could really push aside all memories of 2010 when France washed out and basically staged a mutiny in South Africa.

Germany did not look like their usual selves against Algeria and they will need to play much better against France to advance to the semifinals again. The Netherlands is still alive and they play Costa Rica after losing to Spain in the 2010 final, while Argentina and Belgium is the other game on the schedule and that comes after the US lost in a heartbreaker. Tim Howard had an amazing game in the matchup against Belgium, but he couldn't stop everything and now they are through as well.

All the European teams are battling history, as no Euro side has won when the World Cup is held in South America. Argentina is the favorite along with Germany and Brazil and the host nation hasn't lost a home match since the 1970s and that is on the line in this tournament.
