Cleveland Cavaliers Rumors: Kyrie Irving Trade Off After Max Contract Extension As Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson Traded?

The Cleveland Cavaliers have locked in Kyrie Irving on a max contract and that means all trade rumors involving the point guard are done for now and this comes after the team drafted Andrew Wiggins with the number one overall pick in the draft and now the team may look at trades involving Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson or Anderson Varejao as they try and sign players in free agency.

Dan Gilbert broke the news on Twitter and wrote that the team and Irving with sign a $90 million deal on the 10th and this comes after July 1 opened free agency. The Cavaliers have been mentioned over the past couple years in rumors involving Irving and many wondered whether he would leave or not, but clearly he wants to remain in Cleveland for the immediate future. Irving is making $7,070,730 next season and he will be getting a huge deal now and he can't sign the deal until July 10 and the deadline would have been in October.

David Blatt is in with Wiggins and Irving and now the Cavaliers have a foundation to build on for the future. The team has a dream of getting LeBron James to sign and while that will be nearly impossible, the team now has Wiggins and Irving and that is more than many franchises can say. Wiggins averaged over 15 points at Kansas and Irving is one of the best point guards in the league and while the Cavs may trade Thompson and Waiters, they also could be part of the plan if they remain.

The team picked Anthony Bennett first overall last season and if he can get into shape and be a solid player, the team will have a nice core to build around. Wiggins has the potential to be a star and a top defensive player, while Irving could be a future MVP if the team ever gets good again. The Cavs have been bad for a long time, but adding back Irving is a huge deal and now with Wiggins in the fold there is some hope and optimism with the Cavaliers. LeBron James may be an option down the line, but right now he is fine in Miami and it looks like he will be re-signing there.

Wiggins is a perfect complement to Irving, who was frustrated last season with all the speculation about his future and whether he will stay in Cleveland or not. According to ESPN.com, the Cavs are in the wheelhouse for LeBron, but right now no one in the NBA actually thinks he will sign back there. James is most likely to go back to Miami, but there is a chance that other teams could convince him to join up, especially if teams create cap space to sign him and Melo. ESPN.com writes that the Cavs, Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers have all looked into that possibility, as have the Miami Heat themselves.
