The NBA free agency period is starting up and the point guard position will be one to watch and now that Darren Collison has opted out of his deal with the Clippers, he joins Kyle Lowry, Isaiah Thomas, Mario Chalmers and Steve Blake as some of the best point guards on the market and teams like the Miami Heat, NY Knicks, LA Lakers and Houston Rockets could be interested in those players.

Lowry is the top name and Thomas is a restricted free agent and now Collison joins the mix after a solid season with the Clippers. According to ESPN.com, Collison has opted out of his deal with the Clippers after starting 35 games and he now could be in line for a raise after making less than $2 million and he could be a very good option for teams on the market. Collison is a good shooter and a smart player and he averaged 11 points last season and at 26 he is young enough to still make an impact with a team.

Lowry is still the top point guard on the market and along with the Raptors, he has the Miami Heat and NY Knicks chasing him. Miami needs a true point guard and after the way Chalmers played during the finals, Lowry could be his replacement and Miami likely will let him go as a free agent. Blake was traded during the season by the Lakers and he could end up there, while the Kings likely will try to match offers for Thomas.

The Heat are down in the finals and if they end up losing they could blow up the team or at least work on bringing in some other players to join the Big 3. The team reportedly is looking at bringing Carmelo Anthony into the fold, but that would be very hard and very expensive even with a pay cut and they could look at some other players instead. James has said that he could be interested in playing with Melo, but a ton of things needs to play out for that to work and it could be too complicated for the team to get done and keep under the cap.
