Clint Dempsey (L) of the U.S. celebrates with his team mates after scoring a goal against Ghana during their 2014 World Cup Group G soccer match at the Dunas arena in Natal June 16, 2014. "

The United States won over Ghana in their opening World Cup match in Group G after Clint Dempsey and John Brooks scored and now the team has a crucial three points in this group of death and now they are tied with Germany atop the group of death and while they lost Jozy Altidore to a hamstring injury, the comeback was amazing and team USA now is atop of the standings for now.

Dempsey started off the game by scoring just 32 seconds into it and things did not break until after the 80th minute and Ghana scored to make it 1-1, but the US did not give up. Everyone said the only chance for the US to advance was with a win here and now they have three points and a crucial match coming up against Portugal. The game in Manaus against Portugal will be without Pepe after he got a red card in the match against Germany and that could be the opening that the United States needs in this group.

John Brooks scored on a fantastic corner kick set from Graham Zusi and Brooks had just come in as a sub and he now is the first player to score in his US debut since back in 2002 when Clint Mathis did it against South Korea. Brooks also became the first US sub to do that and he also had some great defensive plays at the end of the game to hold off a final push from Ghana.
