The NY Knicks are coming into the offseason with major questions and a Tyson Chandler trade could be in the works for the team as they try to re-sign Carmelo Anthony as a free agent and trades with names like Raymond Felton, Amar'e Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert, Andrea Bargnani and others could also be coming for Phil Jackson as he tries to ensure that Melo doesn't leave for a team like the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls or LA Lakers.
According to ESPN.com, Jackson has said that trading Felton could be an option this summer and that no one is off the list when it comes to potential deals. Amar'e is making over $20 million so he will be hard to move, while Chandler is the best defensive player on the team and has had interest from the Lakers and Mavericks. Bargnani will be hard to move as well, while Shumpert is the best young player on the team and it could be unwise to move him.
This season Anthony was not named to the All-NBA team and one reason is likely because of how poorly the Knicks played overall this season. Anthony was very good while averaging 27 points per game and being the leader of the team, but the overall performance was terrible and the team missed the playoffs for the first time in a few years. The Knicks took a major step back this year and that is one reason why many think that it's possible that Anthony moves on as a free agent. Phil Jackson has been speaking with him and wants to re-sign him, but there is a good chance he will leave for a team like the Rockets or the Bulls.
The Bulls and Rockets reportedly are the two teams most interested in Anthony and they each will have to make some major moves to even have a chance of signing him. Those teams also reportedly are in the mix for the Kevin Love trade and that means if one falls through, the team could go after the other deal instead. The Bulls gave a tough financial situation and they will have to do something with Carlos Boozer to make any deal work. The Bulls also may need to move Taj Gibson or Jimmy Butler.
The Houston Rockets have a number of moves they need to make to get in position and that includes trades involving Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin. The team also has a big decision to make regarding Chandler Parsons and his contract and depending on how that goes and what the team does, the Rockets may not have the chance to pull off one of these other moves. The team needs to trade Asik and Lin and even after that they have more moves to make and this comes as the Knicks will be pushing hard to sign Melo. The team went 3-13 to start the year and won just 37 games, but NY will try and convince Anthony that he is at the start of a championship path and will try and keep him in the Big Apple.
