The San Francisco Giants are enjoying the rewards of a balanced and healthy roster. The team currently has the best record in baseball and things are only getting better as Matt Cain is officially healthy and back on the field. The Giants have not fared well lately at AT&T Park, in the midst of their longest home losing streak, but facing the New York Mets could help change that.
A win on Friday could make the Giants the first team to reach 40 wins this season as their starting pitching ERA hits 3.05, ranking them third in the league. That should only improve with Cain back in action. The pitcher has been hanging on the disabled list after injuring his index finger. Now back in action, he was working off a 1-3 record and 3.66 ERA. He will be facing the Mets for the just the first time at home.
The Giants have lost five straight home games to the Mets. Cain gave up three runs in the 7-2 loss last season. San Francisco is currently about to open up a 10-game home stand after finishing their recent road trip 5-2. They got the 6-1 win on Cincinnati after Brandon Crawford knocked out a three-run home run. He was just 4 for 31 in his last 10 games.
The New York Mets are in desperate need of improving at the plate. The team is jsut4 for 30 with runners in scoring position. They are coming off getting swept by the Chicago Cubs. Jonathon Niese will take the mound after being 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA in his last three games. In his recent start, he gave up just two runs and eight hits while running on 91 pitches in eight innings. Against the Giants, the pitcher has a 2.33 ERA in four starts, but he has been backed by just five runs from his teammates which has not helped.
