The New York Giants have tons of questions coming into 2014 and one of the biggest is about the future of David Wilson after his neck injury and now that the running back has not been cleared for contact, the team could look at making a trade for LaMichael James with the 49ers while preparing for Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams to start and handle the load for Eli Manning no offense this year.

Wilson came into the offseason looking to recover fully from his neck injury sustained last season and many wondered what his NFL future would be if the injury lingered. According to ESPN.com, Wilson was set to go to the doctor this week to see if he could be cleared to get back into the swing of things this offseason and reports say that he was not cleared and will not be in contact drills in OTA workouts over the summer. Wilson was drafted two years ago in the first round and was an electric talent from Virginia Tech, but so far his career has been one disaster after another.

The Giants now may have to accept the fact that they will never get any type of first round level production from Wilson and there is a chance he never returns to football. The report says that Wilson will continue to get checkups by doctors and could get cleared ahead of training camp, but so far that has not happened and if he is not cleared after this, he could end up on the physically unable to perform list and then possibly injured reserve. The Giants have realized already that Wilson is not going to be a contributor and that's one reason why they signed Jennings and drafted Williams.

The Giants have to look at Wilson as literally nothing now and that anything they get out of him from this point on is a positive. The Giants will have wasted a first round pick on Wilson and it already was looking that way before he was injured. In 2012 he fumbled early and ended up in the doghouse and he did the same last season and while he has electric speed, Wilson has shown he is not totally mature yet, pulling backflips when he should have been worrying about holding onto the ball. Wilson could have been a great return man for the Giants, now he likely will be a trivia answer the way things are going.

Eli Manning needs a more consistent offense in 2014, as the team was a mess last year while starting off 0-6 and part of that was the loss to the Cowboys that started with two horrible fumbles from Wilson. Wilson has just 504 yards rushing in 21 career games and he played in just five last season before getting injured. Wilson has been a major disappointment for the Giants, who thought he could be an explosive option out of the backfield after starring in college in that role. The team signed Jennings after his solid year with the Raiders and now he will be the starter while Andre Williams comes in as one of the likely backups with Michael Cox and all those names are ahead of Wilson now.
