Things continue to go from bad to worse for the New York Mets, but the team actually has a chance to get back-to-back home wins for the first time since April. The team has one of the worst offensive units in the majors which is why they have yet to put together a win streak at Citi Field since winning three games in a row from April 23-25. Putting Bartolo Colon on the mound might not be the best way to try and get it done as the Pittsburgh Pirates look to take on in New York.

The Mets have a .222 combined batting average, one of the lowest in all of baseball. They have dropped nine of their past 13 games, despite their runs per game average rising to 2.8. In the midst of a nine-game home stand, they have lost five of their first eight. This poor stretch has resulted in the firing of batting coach Dave Hudgens. Facing Charlie Morton will not help improvement and neither will Colon on the mound.

The right-hander has not played well so far this year, sitting at 3-5 with a 5.34 ERA. After getting wins in his first two starts, he gave up 16 runs and 21 hits in nine innings. Colon might be a bit better if the Mets could give him some support, but in each of his losses, he has been backed by just one run of support. Against the Pirates he is 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA.

The Pirates downfall is their struggles on the road. The team is just 7-15 in road games this year. Andrew McCutchen has a .276 average on the road while hitting .333 in Pittsburgh. The Pirates will send Charlie Morton to the mound to help improve the numbers. He is 1-6 with a 3.29 ERA, but has momentum since getting his first win of the year. He had been winless over his previous 14 starts with a 4.93 ERA on the road. He is also winless against the Mets in his career. If New York is going to win, they must take advantage of the Pirates' road struggles on Wednesday.
