When Andre Johnson said that he was unhappy with the recent seasons of the Houston Texans, he meant it. When the failed to make a move for a true starting and franchise quarterback this offseason, he grew even more upset to the point where he told media that he would not mind a trade out since he is simply tired of losing every year. The Texans kicked off OTAs and Johnson was nowhere to be found.
Head coach Bill O'Brien is learning the NFL coaching job very quickly and part of that includes dealing with player drama. O'Brien downplayed the absence of the team's leading wide receiver and noted that the two have spoken multiple times and things will get worked out in no time.
"He and I have had positive conversations," O'Brien said, via ESPN.com. "I have a ton of respect for him. We'd love to have him here now. That's up to him. We're moving forward with the players that are here. These guys are working extremely hard. That's where it's at."
Johnson is the face of the franchise and easily one of the best players on the team outside of JJ Watt and newly drafted Jadeveon Clowney. Financially, it does not make sense to get rid of Johnson this season because the Texans have to pay him regardless. However, as injuries begin to mount in training camp, teams might come calling to the Texans and if Johnson is still sitting out of OTAs Houston will listen.
One person hoping his team makes a deal for Johnson is New York Jets running back Chris Johnson. The veteran took to Twitter to say, "Let's bring Andre Johnson to the jets legooo." Now, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport is noting that the Texans are extremely unlikely to trade Johnson, but the Jets could be a nice fit.
New York needs to revamp their offensive weapons if Geno Smith stands any shot at being successful. After getting Eric Decker, they attempted to acquire DeSean Jackson and settled on the draft instead. The team could easily make a move for Johnson if the price is right which will likely be in the form of draft picks. Do not put anything past Rex Ryan.
The Chicago Bears could consider making a trade after Domenik Hixon tore his ACL, but that would give the team three alpha wide receivers on the roster which could work out well or backfire big time. The Bears would be set to win with an offense that consists of Johnson, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey, but Chicago will likely look towards free agency to replace Hixon instead.
