Julio Teheran is statistically one of the best pitchers at this point in the MLB season, but his win column gives off a different impression. The right-hander has not gotten the run support through six starts or the bullpen help to make his numbers better and as the Braves look to end a four-game skid with the San Francisco Giants, now is the time to get moving.
Teheran has allowed one run in 24 innings over three starts. Opponents are batting .139 against the pitcher, but he is only 2-1 over the season. Teheran has gotten three runs of support over his past three starts. That is not helping. The Braves have managed to win, but they were all close games and Teheran would appreciate a team effort. In his last start, he gave up just three hits in eight innings as the Braves beat Cincinnati.
In two starts against the Giants, Teheran has been just as dominant. The pitcher is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA. Buster Posey and Brandon Belt have hit well off him, but overall Teheran has been dominating their National League rivals. On Friday, San Francisco opened the game with an Angel Pagan home run as the centerfielder is batting .364 during a six-game stretch. Michael Morse also homered and went 2-for-4 on the night.
The Braves are not getting any offense which is a big issue. They have scored nine runs in five games while batting .129 with runners in scoring position. The team will face off against Ryan Vogelson who has been inconsistent at best this year. He is coming off a strong start where he pitched seven innings scoreless. However, he has given up 14 runs in 16 innings over his first four starts.
