Houston Texans Draft Rumors: Mike Glennon Trade Over Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles as Buccaneers Shop QB for Josh McCown Backup? Lovie Smith Confirms Deal

Mike Glennon represents the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback was drafted under former head coach Greg Schiano and the former front staff of the team. With Lovie Smith and a new general manager on board in Tampa Bay, no one is left in Glennon's corner. The quarterback showed promise last year as a starter, but has no relationship with the people that make the team decisions which leaves him as trade bait with less than a week until the NFL Draft.

The Buccaneers have their quarterback. Smith brought in Josh McCown who he is very familiar with when the two worked together with the Chicago Bears. McCown is coming off a very successful stint filling in for Jay Cutler and Smith likes that he already knows the quarterback's strengths and weaknesses. He knows nothing about Glennon and while the head coach has said nice things about the second-year pro, there is no love in that relationship. The Buccaneers want to get that franchise player and it simply is not Glennon.

"I know enough about that draft to know, yeah, there's someone that would be worthy of the seventh pick because everything is on the board right now," Smith said, via theTampa Bay Times. "Whenever you have a chance to get a franchise quarterback, you have to consider that."

ESPN.com reports the Buccaneers are trying to trade Glennon in order to move up in the draft. They want Johnny Manziel. Smith has been extremely complimentary of the quarterback's style and while he does not fit the typical mold of a Smith style offense, he is the future of the NFL.

Glennon is very young and already has some NFL success under his belt which makes his value high. Any team considering a rookie in the first round could take a serious look at him. However, if the Buccaneers really want Manziel, they would likely have to convince either the Texans, Rams or Jaguars to take him. The three teams represent the first three draft picks which means one of them is taking the former Texas A&M star.

The Buccaneers would not be able to simply give up Glennon for the pick. They would have to add in another draft pick in a later round and possibly one more towards the end. That is a lot to give up for a quarterback that will likely sit a year behind the veteran. The Buccaneers would be smart to trade Glennon for a deal, but hold off and get someone like AJ McCarron or Aaron Murray who's price tag is not as high.
