NY Jets Mock Draft 2014: Mike Evans Trade Up Over Marqise Lee, Odell Beckham Jr? Rex Ryan Seeks First-Round WR as Geno Smith, Michael Vick Compete to Start

The New York Jets are trying to load up on offensive weapons as uncertainty continues with the quarterback position. They made strides by signing free agent Eric Decker to a big contract, but depth remains an issue heading into the NFL Draft. Currently making their first draft pick at No. 18, the New York Jets are favoring a move up for a wide receiver.

The Jets have already been linked to a wide receiver in the first round of the draft, but the team appears to be aiming for a higher pick in order to get former Texas A&M star Mike Evans. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets would ideally like to move up past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 7, but would likely have to give up a few picks in order to do so.

The Jets have to decide what they are willing to give up in order to get one of the best two wide receivers in the draft this year. In order to leapfrog, they might have to give up four picks at most for Evans. With this year being deep at the position, is it worth it? Evans is scheduled to make his visit to the Jets this week. The team has already looked at several other options including Marqise Lee and Odell Beckham Jr. Both receivers are ranked very high and could be an excellent grab for the Jets. They would both be around at No. 18 if the Jets stay put.

Getting another receiver is important given the lack of productivity last year. Behind Decker, Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill are back, plus Jacoby Ford who also signed in the offseason. An improved wide receiver corps will be crucial for whoever the starting quarterback is. Newly signed running back Chris Johnson told NFL.com that he was informed the quarterback competition between Geno Smith and Michael Vick was wide open, something that should just thrill Jets fans.

After the draft, the Jets' offense should be finalized. Evans would be the marquee grab, but Lee or Beckham would also be a solid option. Pair them with Johnson and Chris Ivory at running back and either Vick or Smith should excel in 2014.
