Pacquiao vs Bradley: Rematch No Longer on Table?

Jun 19, 2012 02:13 PM EDT

Manny Pacquiao is due for an autumn rematch.  Right?  Apparently, that assumption is wrong.

According to ABS-CBN news, current welterweight champion Timothy Bradley Jr. feels that the already highly anticipated "part II" will not fabricate into reality.

"Let me tell you something. (Manny) don't want a rematch," said Bradley from his Palm Springs victory celebration. "He should rematch me because that was controversial, but he's not gonna rematch me, guys."

Bradley's initial stance differed.  Aware of the controversy surrounding his title win, he had almost immediately offered the former champion a rematch.  While it is unclear if Bradley's opinion on Pacquiao's mindset is accurate, it appears that he is no longer conflicted over the split-decision's outcome.

Regardless of where the champion's mind is, Pacquiao's has certainly been elsewhere (at least for the time being).  After losing to Bradley, Pacquiao cut short a planned family vacation in the United States to rush home to the Philippines.  A Filipino congressman, Pacquiao arguably went above and beyond the call of duty in response to recent flooding.  The former welterweight champion donated his winnings from the Bradley loss to those who were displaced by the floods.

While Pacquiao could certainly name his next opponent (perhaps any opponent other than Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr.) it will be interesting to see if he chooses to chase down his title.
