NY Giants Rumors: Ryan Nassib Traded After Josh Freeman Signed? Chicago Bears Seek Jay Cutler Backup as Baltimore Ravens, Buccaneers Options in Draft Deal

The New York Giants roster is suddenly quarterback heavy with the addition of a fourth player. The team announced the signing of Josh Freeman on Wednesday that now officially puts everyone's futures into question. The addition of Freeman creates a competition to backup Eli Manning, unless someone is off the roster before it can begin.

Looking at the stats, Freeman was a strong addition for the Giants. The quarterback's professional career has been a rollercoaster at best, but he certainly has shown plenty of signs of having the potential to be a starter when needed. 2013 was not kind to Freeman after getting released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then demoted by the Minnesota Vikings. He is now seeking stability and a career resurgence with the Giants.

With Freeman on the roster, current backup Ryan Nassib is looking good as gone. According to the New Jersey Star Ledger, the Giants will not attempt to trade Nassib before the NFL draft in hopes of moving up some spots. The report is interesting. Last year Nassib was viewed as a potential first-round pick until New York picked him up in round four. He certainly has a lot of potential despite not throwing a pass all season. He sat at No. 3 on the roster merely because he is young and needs to develop. However it remains to be seen exactly what his value would be on the market.

Several teams could take a look at Nassib considering he is young and has plenty of potential to become something better. He could easily find a home on a team either in need of a starter or quality backup. The Baltimore Ravens have been looking for someone better to backup Joe Flacco. They could be interested in grabbing Nassib instead of drafting a rookie in May. It is unclear what exactly the Giants asking price would be, but it could not be any higher than a fifth round pick. The Chicago Bears are looking for the same thing with Jay Cutler.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could also be a strong option for Nassib. Head coach Lovie Smith is not sold on Mike Glennon despite the quarterback having almost an entire season of starting under his belt. He has been exploring draft options to backup Josh McCown and eventually replace the veteran quarterback. Nassib is already a step ahead of anyone coming out of the draft. The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars could also have interest.

The Giants are really in a win-win situation right now. The have Manning as the established starter. Both Nassib and Freeman have the talent to fill in should anything happen to the quarterback. If anything, Curtis Painter becomes expendable.
