Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Darren Sproles Not Replacing DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin Praises Chip Kelly Move as Odell Beckham Jr, Jordan Matthews Draft Picks

The Philadelphia Eagles are now moving into their post-Desean Jackson era as the team begins to re-tool their offense without the leading receiver. Chip Kelly's system won out and the receiver was released on Friday. The Eagles made several key offseason signings that show Jackson's production on the field will not be all that missed. However, the team is still targeting a top rookie wide receiver to help fill the roster void.

The trade for hybrid running back Darren Sproles is now looking more genius than ever. The Eagles acquired the veteran from the New Orleans Saints and without Jackson, Sproles is likely to shine with the team in the Kelly offense. However, while Sproles is going to be taking on a much larger role with Philadelphia, Kelly insists he is not the replacement of Jackson.

"Totally different positions," Kelly said, via Burlington County Times. "Darren is a running back. DeSean a wideout, so our whole thing, and I mentioned it when we got Darren, we're excited about him, but we've got a long way to go here before we play a game so let's get him in here. Let's go through phase one, OTA, minicamp, and all that, and find out what his strengths are and play to them, but I'm real excited with the addition and what he can give us."

One person that will replace Jackson is Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles re-signed the wide receiver along with Riley Cooper and after missing all of last season, Maclin has the chance to really shine this season in the wake of his one-year contract. Maclin is coming off an ACL tear so there are certainly questions still surrounding his health, but he did put up 26 touchdowns in four seasons and has the making of a big-play wide receiver. If healthy, Maclin will be the main man for quarterback Nick Foles.

"I didn't really think about it," Maclin said, via ESPN.com "I think my value is my value, regardless of who I have playing around me. That's my mindset and how I approach the situation."

That leaves the upcoming NFL Draft to acquire one more star receiver. The Eagles are predicted to draft a receiver early. They will not land Sammy Watkins because he could be gone in the first five picks and it will be tough to get Mike Evans as well. However, the team could land former FSU star Kelvin Benjamin who has been on the rise since his size was displayed at the draft. Odell Beckham Jr could certainly help fill a hole. Considered one of the most consistent players in the draft, his speed also makes him an asset on special teams, something Jackson was as well. The team could also look at Marqise Lee or Jordan Matthews for help.
