Carolina Panthers Rumors: Kenny Britt, Miles Austin Targets Over DeSean Jackson Trade After Philadelphia Eagles WR Denies Move, Santonio Holmes Option

The Carolina Panthers are still pursuing free agents to help with their wide receivers corps before looking to the NFL Draft for options. The Panthers said goodbye to two of their top receivers, leaving the team with Greg Olsen as the only quality returning option. Carolina is predicted to concentrate on other areas in the upcoming NFL Draft, leaving the free agent market the team's best option for another deep threat target.

One thing the Panthers are not interested in is a trade for DeSean Jackson. According to ESPN.com writer David Newton, the Panthers are not interested in making a deal for Jackson no matter how much the receiver would help the offense. Newton writes, "The Panthers don't have any interest in trading for Jackson even though they have been reported as one of several teams that have inquired. Don't look for that to change even if Jackson is released, which is the apparent direction this is headed."

With Jackson not an option, could Kenny Britt be the team's top target? The wide receiver has paid a visit to the Panthers, but left without a contract. It is likely that Britt is requesting a big contract and the Panthers would prefer not to give him one. Instead, the team will let Britt get desperate and come back with a smaller offer.

That might be happening sooner rather than later as teams continue to cross off their list of potential players. The New England Patriots have confirmed that will not be signing Britt this season. While the Patriots are still looking around the free agent market, the Boston Herald confirms that Robert Kraft has shot down all ideas that Britt would be catching passes from Tom Brady in the near future.

NFL Network suggests the Panthers are the best fit for the former Tennessee Titan. While the team made a few quiet signings at the position, Britt would give Newton a top down-field threat, something the team needs.

Along with Britt, Miles Austin could be a solid target for the Panthers. Austin has been gaining a mild amount of interest after being a cap casualty with the Dallas Cowboys. The New York Jets are also interested in the wide receiver so things could come down to a bidding war.
