Maurice Jones-Drew Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Target After Jerry Jones Seeks DeMarco Murray Backup? Raiders, Dolphins Options as Steelers RB Deal Fails

Maurice Jones-Drew is finding out just how tough the free agent market is for a veteran running back. After getting told by the Jacksonville Jaguars to test his worth on the open market, Jones-Drew has visited a few teams, but has yet to sign a contract. With another team crossed off the list, where does Jones-Drew land?

The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be the favorites to land Jones-Drew. The team is in need of a veteran running back to help backup second-year pro Le'Veon Bell. Jones-Drew went for a visit that extended two days, but left without being sign. The team could still pick up Jones-Drew if he sits on the market for longer, but for now things are not looking good for the veteran.

Contract demands could be getting in the way of Jones-Drew signing on with a team. The running back has said he is seeking a multi-year deal and most teams are likely only offering him the veteran's minimum. Jones-Drew is coming off a few rough seasons that were plagued by injuries. He is a far cry from the running back he once was. Last season he only put up 803 yards as a lead back, averaging 3.4 yards per carry.

If Jones-Drew does not head back to Pittsburgh, where could he sign? The Denver Broncos could actually be an option if the veteran lowers his contract demands. The team worked with a three-back system last season. The team is not bringing back Knowshon Moreno since the running back's contract demands are too high. With two young backs that are expected to develop in their second year with the team, Jones-Drew could be a solid addition as a rotational player.

The Miami Dolphins are in desperate need of a running back. The youth experiment failed for Miami last season and they need an upgrade. The Dolphins appear more likely to try and sign a more marquee back like Moreno or LeGarrette Blount, but Jones-Drew would be an inexpensive option if Miami also wanted to draft a rookie.

The Dallas Cowboys might be the last option for Jones-Drew. The team is invested in DeMarco Murray, but could use a quality backup. The NFL Network has the Cowboys as an option for a trade for Chris Johnson, but Jones-Drew would be an easier signing. The running back is on the clock. If he does not sign with a team before the draft, it could be early retirement for Jones-Drew.
