According to Tim McManus of PhillMag.com, Jackson is concerned about his future and place on the Philadelphia Eagles after players like Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin were re-signed at the start of the offseason. Reports have surfaced that Philadelphia could be on the outs with Jackson. Head coach Chip Kelly refused to comment on the situation, only making the speculation worse for the wide receiver.
"According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, Jackson is unsure about his standing on the team and troubled by what is being written about him. He has reached out to some of his teammates to express his concern. One of Jackson's top confidants says that the whole situation has become "a bit of a distraction," McManus writes.
Kelly has only added to the confusions surrounding Jackson. Back in April during the NFL Scouting Combine, the head coach spoke about key veterans and free agents, saying he had spoken to all of them about their position with the team. He named off players like Brent Celek, Michael Vick and Jason Peters, but failed to discuss Jackson while the team was in talks with Cooper and Maclin.
Jackson has stated that he wants to remain in Philadelphia for the long term. However, his stance on seeking another contract extension has left a bad taste in the mouths of some front office members for the Eagles which could be hurting his status. Jackson has had some bumps in recent months. He got into an argument with the wide receivers coach during a game. He also discussed how he was struggling with the "all-in" offense that Kelly runs.
There is no denying that Jackson is one of the best offensive players in the NFL. He put up 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He remains one of the most consistent players for Philadelphia. Jackson is set to make $10.5 million next year and is not being shy about wanting more. In the coming weeks, Philadelphia will determine just how worth it Jackson is and since the two sides are not in communication with one another, the receiver should be a bit worried.
