NY Giants Free Agency Rumors: Jacoby Jones, Brandon Pettigrew Top Targets After Rashad Jennings Signs, Hakeem Nicks Exits, Owen Daniels Option

The New York Giants are making offensive weapons a priority during the 2014 offseason. The team has already re-signed Peyton Hillis to a new two-year contract extension. On the first day of free agency they signed former Oakland Raiders running back Rashad Jennings to round out their three-man rotation with David Wilson. Now looking for passing targets, New York has several players coming in for a visit.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Giants are bringing in wide receiver Jacoby Jones who has spent the past two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Jones did not impress last season. He put up 455 yards and two touchdowns in limited action, but the Giants need bodies running the sidelines and he could come cheap.

According to ESPN, the Ravens are letting Jones test the market to see how much he is worth, but remain in the mix to re-sign him if Jones does not like the offer. The contract Jones is offered could have been dictated by what Dexter McCluster recently signed with the Tennessee Titans. The wide receiver/kick returner signed a three-year deal worth $12 million and $4.5 million guaranteed. That is likely what Jones will be offered as well.

The Ravens cannot afford to lose Jones no matter what kind of numbers he put up. He was a key member to the 2012 Super Bowl team and while he is relatively one-dimensional, the receiver has been clutch for Baltimore. The Giants would certainly welcome him with open arms.

Also on the list to visit New York is tight end Brandon Pettigrew who is desperately needed. The Giants will lose Brandon Myers to free agency. He started all last season at the position. Pettigrew was strong for the Detroit Lions since 2009. Last season he put up 416 yards and two touchdowns. His best season came in 2011 when he had 777 yards and five scores.

The tight end is getting a lot of attention on the market since Detroit announced they would not re-sign him. The Giants are considered a leader for Pettigrew, but the Jets and Raiders are also in the mix. Houston released Owen Daniels to the market as well which will create some competition in free agency.

New York is making a lot of moves in hopes of improving off last season's struggle to score. Both Pettigrew and Jones could be strong acquisitions for the team.
