Julian Edelman Rumors: Patriots WR Rejects Three-Year Contract Offer, NY Jets, Cleveland Browns Options if Eric Decker, Emmanuel Sanders Not Available

The wide receiver market is getting crowded as Julian Edelman adds his name to the list of available players. The New England Patriots receiver is ready to bank on a breakout year whether that means returning to his team or heading elsewhere. Edelman is ready for a few more zeros on his paycheck and after the Patriots made a last-ditch effort to retain him, the receiver is ready to test his value amongst the rest of the free agents.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots offered a three-year contract to Edelman in hopes of bringing him back, but the receiver rejected the deal and will now enter free agency. Edelman's main priority is making bank in 2014. The wide receiver played last season on a one-year deal worth upwards of $715,000 with bonus incentives worked in. He repaid the Patriots by putting up 1,056 yards, leading the team by at least 400 yards. He wants more than a three-year deal.

Edelman is aware that his stock will not be any higher than it is right now. While the wide receiver had said he would ideally like to return to the Patriots, he wants the most money he can earn in the moment and that means heading elsewhere.

So where does Edelman head now? The market is crowded with players like Erick Decker, Emmanuel Sanders and Golden Tate also being available. Edelman is a bit of a one-hit wonder and might have to wait for a few others to sign before he does.

The Baltimore Ravens could be an option for the receiver. They have been in the market for another receiver. The team's offense did not look the same last season following the departure of Anquan Boldin. They are in the market for Steve Smith and Edelman is certainly a better option.

The Oakland Raiders could be serious contenders for Edelman. They are in need of some consistency at the wide receiver position and failed to achieve that last season. The issue could be whether or not Edelman wants to play for a team that does not have an established quarterback. The could also eliminate the Cleveland Browns who are targeting a top wide receiver like Edelman.

The other options could rest in New York. Both the Giants and Jets are hoping to get ahold of a top wide receiver. The Jets have cap space to burn and could offer Edelman a top contract to replace Santonio Holmes. The Giants need someone to step up in place of Hakeem Nicks, but they might not offer as much money.

Edelman should be cautious. His resume is not as strong as others on the market. He would wise to take the first deal he gets.
