The San Antonio Spurs are once again one of the top teams in the west and as the playoffs get closer, the team could look to add a free agent or two and names like Jimmer Fredette, Danny Granger, Beno Udrih, Metta World Peace and Caron Butler could be options after those players were bought out of their contracts by their teams or are on their way to doing so. Granger is still working on his buyout and there is a chance it may not go down, as he will lose some of his leverage as a free agent if he gets bought out by the Sixers.

Butler has been getting attention from the Miami heat and that could be a move after the Bucks finalize his contract buy out. The Knicks have been a complete mess and they have bought out Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih and those could be options for the team as well. Udrih has experience and ESPN.com has reported that the Spurs could be interested in him or Granger if and when they hit the market. Fredette is working on a buyout as well with the Kings and he should be a coveted player, as he never found his role with the Kings but has been an ace three point shooter this season.

The Spurs have been dealing with a high amount of injuries all season and while Kawhi Leonard is returning, the team still has plenty to make up for and with Tony Parker out for the foreseeable future and likely until playoff time, the team needs some support. Leonard is back after being out for nearly a month with a broken hand and he missed 14 games during that stretch of time. Leonard has been very solid for the Spurs this season and Gregg Popovich said it would be huge to get him back, as he is averaging 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals this season and was integral to the playoff and finals run last year.

ESPN.com reported that Parker will be out for an extended period of time as he heals up from a number of injuries and that along with the other injured players were one reason why the team was expected to be active at the deadline. The team only added Austin Daye and now they could look to the free agent market if one of those players hits it. Fredette and Granger are the most logical fits, while World Peace might work out surprisingly well with a coach like Pop.
