The Canada and US women's Olympics hockey teams meet on the ice on Thursday for the gold medal game at the Sochi Winter Olympic games and the matchup will be streaming online from NBC and the game will air live on the main NBCOlympics.com website and TV channel and comes as the two faced off already this year and the rivalry will only get hotter.
The first game on the schedule saw Switzerland defeat Sweden for the bronze medal to finish third in the tournament and now the US and Canada will matchup in a rematch of the Vancouver games that saw the Canadian team win as well. The US has been a powerhouse along with Canada for the Olympics on the women's side, as the team has earned a medal at every games since the sport was brought in and now they have the chance to get gold and it comes after the team previously beat Sweden to clinch at least a silver medal after winning 6-1 and putting up 70 shots in that game.
The US and Canada are playing on the men's side as well and this comes after the Canadian team won last time around in 2010 as well and now the United States on both sides are looking for gold. The women have not been able to take it sometime and they are hoping to add to things since back in 1998 and they have to go through their toughest rival to do it. The game in Vancouver was a good one for the women's side and Canada won that scrappy matchup with a 2-0 victory and now the US is hoping to take the gold back since they won it back in Nagano in 98. The game will replay at 5 pm as well and these two teams know each other quite well already.
The Us team has been great on the offensive end and they put up 70 shots against Sweden and while they likely will not be able to do that again, they have the chance to put up some great numbers. Amanda Kessel had a goal in the last game and now she and her brother Phil both are looking for gold at the games and Canada comes in after beating the Swiss and they ended up with the bronze after their game on Thursday.
Canada has been in the running for a gold or silver every season and now they have their eyes on the gold once again and this comes as the United States has 11 players on their team that were in the game back in 2010. The team has experience and the they have a hill to climb, as the Americans have not won over Canada since back in 98 and they lost in the gold medal game in Salt Lake City and then in Vancouver and they also fell this year in the preliminary round and are looking for revenge on that go around. The team has multiple silvers and a bronze medal and they are hoping to add a gold as well.
